Sunday 28th January 2018
Well, we finally managed to get our 2018 season underway after a very wet beginning to the year. The course was as good as could be expected with excellent greens and tee boxes whilst the fairways were soft, there were certainly playable. Most players experiencing tough conditions when veering into the rough but the lift clean and place ruling certainly helping to alleviate the misfortune.

We played off the green Tees with two players returning 36 points each and Michael Leahy who finished 3rd with 35 points. Congratulations and well played lads, but we can only have one winner and that was Conor Corroon who had 18 points on the back nine pipping Michael Smith who had 16 points on the same stretch. Two scratches proving very costly.

Congratulations also to Gavin Morris, the only player with a 2 who takes home the purse for the first two of the new year. As you can imagine, pin seeking was tough given the conditions but we're told Gavin’s wedge on 8 was worthy of the prize alone almost holing out for the hole in one before safely making the 8 foot putt back down the hill. Well done Gavin.

Our next competition will be on Sunday February 11th which is our new Captain’s Drive-In. Please give Bruce Curtis your full support. The Time Sheet is now Open for this.

Sunday 4th November 2017
Today’s 3 Ball Scramble competition was enjoyed by all. It was great fun with plenty of birdies, the odd bogey and plenty of putts shaving the holes. The ooohs and ahhhs could be heard right around the course all morning. All involved look forward to some more of this type of enjoyable golf. The best score of the day was had by the team of Brian Stapleton, Gerry Browne and Jamie O’Toole with a score 60.4. A closing birdie on the tough par 5 18th hole clinching the the victory. Very well played lads. 2nd place went to Eric Mather, Feargal O’Mongain and Paul Holohan with a fine score of 61.3. A bogey on the notoriously tricky index one 16th hole proving very costly indeed. Better luck next time as they say.

Sunday 29th October 2017

Golfer of the Year Winner Eric Mather
Today’s CSS was 72. What a great morning to hold our end of qualifying competitions for this season, it was more like the start of September than the end of October. This was also the final round in our 2017 Golfer of the Year competitions, where the five best rounds from nine count to produce our clubs golfer of the year. Feargal O’Mongain produced today’s best score of 38pts, very well played Fergal. Eric Mather and David Doran returned the next best scores, both having 34pts each. The long awaited winner of the 2017 Golfer of the Year competition is Eric Mather who finished the season with a fine score of 61 points. Congratulations Eric, very well done again. Making the competition with victory on the very last day of the season makes it all the more memorable. It was a close call with Finbarr Maguire in second on 57 points. The winter season is upon us, I’m sure you will be delighted to hear our Green Fee on Sunday mornings from now until 1st April is only 45 euro. Suggestions on the Format of some of our winter competitions are welcome.

Very well played Tony, a terrific win. Mike Smith was second best with 34pts and he was first out. Very well played Mike. The other prize winners were for the front and back nines Mick Leahy and Ken Waller. While the longest drive was won by Jamie O’Toole with Conor Corroon picking up the nearest the pin. Many thanks again Eamonn, the club owes you a great deal for your long and faithful service. We are very lucky and long may it continue. Final Round in Golfer of the Year competition on Sunday 29th October. This will be the last qualifying competition of the season, please try and make it. Captains Prize Winner Ken Linnane
Today was our Captain Michael Martin’s Prize, we have had better days for golf but it could have been a lot worse. A soft windy day as they say in the west. In fact it was more like winter than autumn. Considering the poor outlook, we had a very good turnout and our Captain laid on a great show with excellent prizes available to the winners. The course despite the rain was in excellent condition and a great day was had by all. Very well done Michael. As you may know it is club policy that a player can only win one prize in our Major events, excluding the two’s of course. There were five prizes on offer in our Captain’’s prize plus the twos which was won outright by Liam O’Connor. Well played Liam. The Longest Drive was won by Patrick Barr. Liam O’Connor won nearest the Pin. Conor Walsh won the back nine with 19pts Mick Leahy won the front nine with 18pts In 3rd place we had Conor Corroon on 36pts In 2nd place came Graham O’Hare on 36pts (count back) And The overall Winner of our 2017 Captains Prize was Ken Linnane(13) with 37pts Congratulations Ken a terrific score and very well played. Ken was one of the last out and got caught with that heavy downpour over his last few holes. It was a pleasure to see so many new faces taking part this year, keep spreading the news.

Sunday 20th August 2017
A terrific turn out for the 4 Ball better ball competition this morning which was enjoyed by everyone. This format under the GUI rules does not qualify for handicap purposes, so no CSS. We had a perfect morning for golf as the rain did not arrive until our final four ball were walking off the 18th. Congratulations to the winners, Jamie O’Toole and his guest from Stackstown Kevin Ryan, they had a terrific score of 45pts. Very well played lads. Close on their heels were Paddy Barr and Jim Verling on 43 points. Also with 43pts but beaten on count back for 2nd was Gavin Morris and Conor Corroon. Next we had Bruce Curtis and Liam O’Connor on 42pts. Very well played lads. As mentioned everyone enjoyed the format and it will feature again on our schedule.

Congratulations to Michael Moffat on one of his last outings as a member as promotion in his job is our loss but his gain. He is and was a great supporter of the club and will be sadly missed. Michael moves to the west on a permanent basis in a few weeks and what a way to finish. His 36pts won todays competition and also cost him a shot but we wish him the very best of luck. Well done again Michael. Close on his heals came the Murphy boys (not related) with Barry and David each returning 35pts. Paul Courtney was only one back on 34pts. Very well played lads.

On his second time out this year and under tough conditions, our congratulations go to Finbarr Maguire who brought home the best score of the day, having 33pts. Well done Finbarr. We spoke a bit too soon last week with the weather. Not alone did the frost give us a late start today but we also postponed the start of our Golfer of the Year Competition as four of the holes were closed and the 10th is been played as a par three. This is all because of the persistent rain we have had since November. On the bright side, work on the course is progressing nicely and it wont be long before course is back playing to its five star quality. Patience is a virture. But as a result we are planning an away day for our members next Sunday. So we need to know by Tuesday the names of players wanting to play next Sunday. Our New Captain Kevin Arundel, started his year with a perfect drive straight down the middle of the first fairway. Congratulations Kevin, we have no doubt your impact on the club will be as spectacular as your drive-in. Kevin has some very exciting and forward thinking ideas on how to develop our club which he hopes to initiate during his year. He started off by inviting Michael Martin to be our vice-captain which was an inspired choice. The rest of his plans for the club will be announced shortly. My advice on behalf of our members, is enjoy yourself Kevin.
On the links section on our web site, members or sponsors can have their Company or Brand featured, please send me the details if you would like to include your brand.
At last we got the opportunity to hold last years Presidents Prize (Eamonn Cox). A dry morning for a change plus a mild one, made it most enjoyable. The course was still very soft in places as you might expect but in fine condition. Congratulations to Mick Leahy who get his name on the Presidents Cup for the second time, his second nine was just that little bit better than Michael Moffat. Both finished on 35pts which was a terrific score under the conditions. Mick Smith was next best having 33pts. The longest drive on the 18th was won by last years captain Eric Mather. Our President himself nearly got into the prizes as he finished fourth. Well played lads at least we are off and running for the new year.

I have no doubt all will be pleased to hear, not only was the course open today but it was in terrific condition despite all that rain and frost. The greens were in first class order and very few balls, if any, were lost on the fairways. We did not hold a competition expecting the worst which was a pity, as Conor Walsh had a fine score of 37pts followed by our president Eamonn Cox who finished on 34pts with new member Alex Cordero only one shot back on 33pts. With a much better forecast for the coming week, our Captains Drive-In (Kevin Arundel) and the carried forward Presidents Prize (Eamonn Cox) will take place.
